in a sudden burst of home interior-ishness, i decided to do something new with my room. and thanks to some contributions from my living room, loot from the apartment of my recently departed neighbor (she went home to america. she didn’t die.), and some creativity on my part, my bedroom is now that much more awesome.
it all started with some little white christmas lights. i have been wanting to hang christmas lights over my bed for a very long time. years, in fact. but my childhood bedroom is butt ugly. hanging christmas lights in it would be an insult to the christmas lights. i thought i had my chance in college, but turns out christmas lights are a fire hazard. then i moved to a muslim country, and where do you get christmas lights in a muslim country? i mean, you can, but maybe i’m just lazy. anyways, amanda, my neighbor, left some behind. so up they went.
but they clashed with the curtains. or rather, the curtains clashed. with everything. under the sun. they were perhaps sewn by an 80 year old colorblind amish missionary woman in 1942. they were a bold mix of various shades of blues, oranges, purples, yellows, and greens. in fact, theo, dr huxtable’s son, might have worn a pair of pants cut from the same fabric. bottom line: the curtains had to go. in my front room, i have much more attractive curtains in muted tones of cream and green (which match my bedspread and why did i never realize this before?!?). i never close them since i have a bamboo blind outside my front window. so into the bedroom they went. a much more subtle and rustic feel.
but this created another problem. a little over a year ago, i was awoken in the middle of the night by demons in my house. at that time, i wrote down the verses in romans 8:38 – 39 on a notecard and taped it at the head of my bed. and over the past year, it has become a security blanket of sorts for me. i see it every night before i go to bed. and every night, it stands as a reassurance to me, a constant reminder that God’s love is here. no matter what. in this house. even while i sleep. and as long as His love is here, there is not room for fear. but the curtains from the front room go almost to the floor. and the head of my bed is right inside the window. hence, the curtain covered the security blanket notecard taped to the wall at the head of my bed. down the notecard came.
those Words, those verses are still important to me. so i woke up this morning with the great idea to paint it on the wall beside my bed. i think my helper thought i was crazy for writing on the walls. but she said she liked the finished product. i’m a fan of the overall effect. and sad that i won’t be around for most of the rest of summer to sleep in my awesome new room.

i. love it.
you are unbelievably creative/industrious/amazing.
and i am totally inspired. there is a big blank spot above our couch that has remained so for over a year now because its big blankness has consistently sucked every creative thought i have ever had out of my head. but this...this might be the solution :D.
i love you, babbie, and your bedroom is beautiful!!

thaaaanks! i wish you could come see our school art teacher's house. he and his wife are both artists. so they have quotes painted on the walls, murals, and other works of art. but then one entire wall of their living room is dedicated to their kids' art (ages 8, 5, 4, and 1). they frame it and hang it up on this one wall! it's adorable! :) anyways, i'm sure that whatever you end up doing with that blank space will be lovely and creative and fantastic just like you. and i want to see pictures!
