"The photo on page 47 is of the Great Mosque of Cordoba, built in the 8th century. The Arabs crossed the Straits of Gibraltar in 711 and conquered almost all of Spain. They remained there until 1492 when Ferdinand and Isabella conquered Granada, the last Arab territory in Spain. Ask the students if they know what a mosque is."
