in the past week, two indonesian people have said things to me that later, when i actually thought about the literal translation, made me chuckle. to myself, of course. here they are.
1. i finished showering one day, and my helper was sweeping off the sidewalk in front of my house. i walked out the front door, and she came up to me and said, "ibu suka melihat rambut nona."
translation: Mrs. likes to see the hair of Ms.
2. just tonight, my tennis teacher, pak budi, was telling me about a time when he spent the night in kopeng, the town on top of the mountain, and how cold it was. there were two factors. first, he had no blanket, and second, "jendela lupa ditutup."
translation: the window forgot to be closed.

it IS funny, sometimes.. :)
that's why you ought to not translate it all literally, for instance the indos tend to say "badan sy sdg tdk enak" when they're not okay physically [my body is not delicious..?!? lol..] :p
hihihi... atw "pantatku pedas" kalo naik motor k smg atw solo.
see? it's fun to translate literally sometimes!
bgmn dg "masuk angin"?
to be jujur until skrg i ga tau gmn translate-nya, just in case km wanna tell "that common indo's ill" kpd other bule, what kata in english yg tepat to translate it? ;p
hmm... dgn masuk angin... ini sdikit susah to translate. krn ga ada in america. it's an indonesian sickness only. orang2 mrika gak percaya that you can get sick dr angin... but it's like what we call "cold". (tp what we panggil "cold", org indo call "flu". beda.) reti, ra?
haha.. i am mudeng, miss kriwul sombong (read: proud) ;p
