yet another reason to be wary

conversation with an indonesian friend last night:

her: i was at the gym this week, and i was exercising. i did 2 or 3 situps, and when i stood up, i was dizzy, so i called my husband and said, "we have to go to the emergency room. now." [this is very much indonesian culture. if ANYTHING is wrong, you go to the hospital.]
me: really? you went to the hospital? you were probably just dehydrated.
her: no. i was drinking lots of water...
me: well, what did they say at the hospital?
her: the doctor made me do some weird stuff. like this... *she demonstrates for me how he had her hold both her arms straight out in front of her and touch the tips of her index fingers together. then he had her take her right index finger, touch it to her nose, then back to her left index finger*
me: that doesn't seem so hard. could you do it?
her: yes. until he made me do it with my eyes closed! i couldn't do it because i couldn't see where my left finger was!
me: so what did the doctor say?
her: he says i have vertigo and he ordered a ct scan, an mri, and an ekg.
me: WHAT? vertigo?? you don't have ANY symptoms of vertigo! you were dehydrated!
her: ya, i looked it up online. i don't have it.
me: so did you get the tests?
her: no.
me: oh, goodness....

please pray that i never, ever get sick enough that i have to go to the hospital here. they kill people in the hospital. sometimes i wonder if some of these doctors passed the 6th grade. there's no common sense, let alone medical sense...
