Day 4. This was the day we headed home. We all loaded onto our boat one last time for the ride back to the big island.
Pak police boss guy drove us back, and we went to the same small harbor we had left from. After we unloaded all of our things from the boat, our boat driver guy said he was going to go look for a truck to drive us back across the island to the big harbor to catch the ferry back to Java. We waited about 10 minutes for him to return, and imagine our surprise when a truck pulled up, and out stepped our boat driver – IN A POLICE UNIFORM! This guy was legit! He was totally serious when he told me he was the police in those parts! I couldn’t believe it!
So basically, that was the best part of that day. Oh, and the fact that our truck broke down and could only drive in first gear across the island and we were afraid we would miss the ferry. We pushed it the last 100 feet or so into the harbor so we could unload all our bags! The ferry ride home was very uneventful, and only two people threw up. The ride took about 7 hours, and after we landed on Java, we asked our bus driver to take us straight to Pizza Hut because spoiled foreigners that we are, we just needed something other than fish and rice to eat!!
Our ferry docking in Jepara.
And now, I leave you with some other pictures of Karimunjawa wildlife that I took throughout the trip. By the way, if you’re ever in this part of the world, I HIGHLY recommend staying a few days in Karimun! It may be primitive and hot and there might be rats and mosquitoes in your room and your valuables might lay around for anyone to take and you might only eat fish and rice for days on end and bathe in saltwater and get cut by coral and almost sink a boat, but oh, the stories you’ll tell…
Oh wait. That’s me!
